18th March 2010 Supply Chain Management - benefits for all Full Day Seminar Institution of Civil Engineers, London, SW1P 3AAEvent FlyerOn most major projects the supply chain accounts for 60-85% of the project’s spend, yet it often attracts the least attention from the management team.
Very often the items being supplied are highly complex and represent significant projects in their own right. Yet the same procurement procedures that are used for buying commodities such as routine products and office furniture are sometimes employed.
The selection of partners in the supply chain represents a key part of the project strategy and yet the actual capability of the suppliers often goes untested until it is too late. Evidence shows that monitoring and controls are also weak and that commercial terms often present a barrier to good performance.
To what degree should clients be concerned about tier 3 or even tier 5 suppliers and how does the principal contractor communicate the client’s goal, values and stakeholder issues such as sustainability concerns and community engagement?
This seminar will examine best practice in supply chain management. It will look at effective examples of unifying clients’ interests with the commercial drivers in the supply chain. It will bring together a number of examples from a wide variety of industry sectors with insights into leveraging finance, gaining and using data from supply chains to modify future arrangements, and recognise the psychological distance that exists for lower lever suppliers needing to provide speedier responses to changing market conditions.
